Gulf States Accelerate Terrestrial Pipelines To Bypass Maritime Chokepoints #
Abu Dhabi National Oil Company chief executive Sultan Al Jaber took the stage at an Atlantic Council event on Wednesday to confirm a permanent realignment in global energy logistics. The United Arab Emirates has completed 50 percent of a massive new crude pipeline designed exclusively to bypass the Strait of Hormuz.
The terrestrial route will effectively double the company's export capacity through Fujairah, a port situated safely on the Gulf of Oman, to 1.8 million barrels per day. "That is exactly why the UAE made the decision more than a decade ago to invest in infrastructure that bypasses the Strait of Hormuz," the state oil entity confirmed. As kinetic strikes and blockades render the traditional maritime chokepoints too expensive or dangerous for global shipping, sovereign capital is carving entirely new physical arteries through the desert to ensure the frictionless flow of hydrocarbons.
