INTUIT SLASHES THREE THOUSAND AS AI TAKES OVER #

Tuesday, 26 May 2026 · words

Intuit is cutting 3,000 jobs as the accounting giant pivots its entire organizational structure toward artificial intelligence. The firm, which produces TurboTax and QuickBooks, announced a 17% reduction of its full-time workforce on Wednesday. The move sent shares down 14% as investors grappled with the reality that even the tax man is being replaced by a meta-model.

This is the era of Administrative Arbitrage, where biological friction is being purged to make room for a multi-year partnership with Anthropic. Intuit is not alone in this aesthetic cleansing. Cisco recently cut 4,000 roles, while ZoomInfo and Cloudflare slashed their headcounts by 20% earlier this month. The goal, according to Intuit’s leadership, is to "simplify its organisational structure and focus on key areas," which is corporate-speak for letting the bots handle the ledger.

The layoffs are part of a broader trend of agentic AI taking over the mundane tasks of the professional class. While the humans are escorted from the building, Anthropic's Mythos model is being integrated to handle tax, finance, and accounting. It is a clean, efficient, and entirely heartless transition. In the new economy, the only thing more certain than death and taxes is that neither will require a human to process the paperwork.
