A wave of litigation has been unleashed as massive retailers like Costco are accused of hoarding $166 billion in tariff refunds that belong to the public. After the Supreme Court struck down emergency duties as unlawful, corporate giants are fighting to keep the windfall rather than passing the savings back to the families who paid the price at the checkout counter. This is a clear case of corporate greed trumping the common good.

When tariffs were imposed, they were meant to support American industry and protect our workers. Now that they have been ruled improper, that money must return to the kitchen tables of the middle class. Instead, we see a 'spectacle of impunity' as lawyers and executives scramble to protect their margins. It is a moral failure when the powerful use legal delays to deprive the working man of what is rightfully his.

We call on the administration to create a simple, transparent process for these refunds to reach the people. The American table is already under assault from inflation and automation; it should not have to fight its own retailers for basic honesty. Restoring these billions to the pockets of families is the only decent path forward.
