Anthropic Gates Security Tools as Cognitive Enclosure Deepens #

Anthropic has acquired the developer tools startup Stainless and launched 'Project Glasswing,' a controlled initiative that gates its most advanced cybersecurity models behind a proprietary perimeter. Major tech firms including Apple, Amazon, and Microsoft are now permitted to use the unreleased Claude Mythos model to find software vulnerabilities, according to reports in the Wall Street Journal. While researchers recently used the model to identify a critical macOS kernel-level flaw, the access remains strictly limited to corporate partners and the Pentagon. This represents the 'Cognitive Enclosure' of the digital commons, where the tools required to secure the world’s infrastructure are privatized for the benefit of a few. By automating the creation of software development kits and vulnerability patching, these firms are liquidating the human engineers who once guarded the perimeter. The state, too, is becoming a client of these private labs, with the Pentagon deploying Mythos even as it attempts to build its own autonomous defense. The digital frontier is no longer a public space for innovation; it is a gated territory where security is a subscription service and the code is a weaponized secret held by a handful of Silicon Valley monopolies.
