Trump Sells One Million Dollar Visas to Billionaires #

Saturday, 25 April 2026 · words

Howard Lutnick, the Commerce Secretary, stood before lawmakers on Thursday and admitted what we already knew: American citizenship is now a luxury product. The "Gold Card" visa program, an executive creation of the Trump administration, offers an expedited pathway to residency for anyone with a spare million dollars. While millions of immigrants wait three years or longer for legal status, the wealthy can now jump the line for a $15,000 processing fee and a $1 million "gift" to the Commerce Department.

Lutnick previously claimed the government had "sold" $1.3 billion worth of these cards in just a few days. However, the reality is slower. Only one person has been approved so far, with hundreds more sitting in a "queue" of cash. This isn't about "exceptional business ability," as the administration claims. It is about a state that has become a pay-to-play boutique.

For the working-class families waiting years for a green card while paying taxes and following every rule, the Gold Card is a spit in the face. It codifies a two-tiered reality where the law is a suggestion for the poor and a menu for the rich. We are no longer a republic of citizens; we are a private club with an increasingly steep initiation fee.
