Berbera port is no longer just a dot on a map; it’s the most exclusive runway in the Horn of Africa. With a 13,000-foot concrete strip and blue-water access, the breakaway region of Somaliland is successfully marketing its stability as a premium luxury service. Israel has already become the first to formally recognize the state, appointing an ambassador and triggering a diplomatic frenzy that has half the world reaching for their smelling salts.

"Should stability be punished?" asked Somaliland analyst Mohamed Abdi Idris. For three decades, the region has operated with a level of legitimacy that its neighbors can only dream of. Now, that legitimacy is being traded for exclusive military basing rights. It’s the geopolitical equivalent of a private island offering a fast-track visa to anyone with a carrier strike group. Twelve nations, including Pakistan, have condemned the move, but their protests are merely background noise to the sound of US destroyers repositioning to the Gulf.

Mogadishu has threatened to restrict access to the Bab el-Mandeb Strait in retaliation, but such threats lack the chic efficiency of Somaliland’s offer. In the era of Imperial Triage, the US is happy to bypass old norms to secure a fortified logistical zone. Somaliland isn't just a state; it’s a new frontier of resource-fortress economics, proving that if you have the right airstrip, the world will eventually come to your party.
