Washington Moves to End Sanctuary City Defiance #
A home is only as secure as its front door. This is the simple truth behind Secretary Markwayne Mullin’s recent warning to so-called sanctuary cities. In his first major interview, the DHS Secretary made it clear that the federal government will no longer tolerate local leaders who enjoy the benefits of international trade while refusing to enforce the laws of the land. By threatening to withdraw customs agents from airports like JFK and LAX, the administration is asserting a fundamental principle of the national covenant: the law must apply to everyone. It is a moral absurdity for a city to demand the privilege of international flights while turning its back on the officers charged with protecting our borders. We cannot have a two-tiered system of citizenship where some jurisdictions are allowed to treat the law as a mere suggestion. Secretary Mullin’s hard look at these airports is a necessary step toward restoring the rule of order. Governor Newsom has warned that this could halt international travel at some of the busiest hubs in the world, but the cost of lawlessness is far higher. Without a unified border policy and cooperation between local and federal authorities, the treasures of our civilization remain insecure. The nation must stand together as one house, or the gate itself becomes a point of vulnerability.
